My art creatively explores and expands reality, illuminating profound issues through beauty. From a background of block printmaking, I developed a love for bold geometrics, which continues to influence my artistic style. By morphing basic shapes into greater complexities, I strive to puzzle viewers of my art over the seemingly joyful images in my art which represent a grander and deeper meaning. When working in fine art forms, my designs act as wordless descriptions of the human condition. However, as a graphic designer, I aim to represent clients as they desire to be perceived through the use of subtle symbolism and clever typographic tricks, giving logos more of a meaning than simple, non-related, pictorial references.
Furthermore, I like to expand these ideas with the use of color. Often, I create bright schemes of complementary or triadic colors to catch the eye and give viewers something more to remember than simply a form. By adding color, I believe I am setting a tone for the design that will ultimately communicate the bigger picture and emotion of the piece. Bright, high contrasting colors accented by solid black and white negative spaces draw the eye into forms and portray a vivacity otherwise absent in some colorless pieces.
Overall, my art aims to make viewers think. As an artist, working in a professional position, I will aim to communicate effectively and use my background in design training and color theory to make something that is not only communicative, but also visually appealing.
